    • A voltage converter, which is placed between a DC power source (B) and a motor (Ml), includes: a voltage sensor (10) and an electric current sensor (11), which senses input and output of electric power to and from the DC power source (B), a buck-boost converter (12) having power control elements, which is placed in a path connecting between power lines (PLl) and (PL2) that establish the connection to the DC power source (B) and the connection to the motor (Ml), respectively; and a controller (30) for controlling the buck-boost converter (12). The controller (30) monitors the change in the regenerated power that is supplied to the DC power source (B), based on the outputs from the voltage sensor (10) and the electric current sensor (11), and, if the amount of change in the regenerated power is greater than a predetermined amount, the controller (30) changes the operation mode of the buck-boost converter (12) from a rapid operation mode to a slow operation mode by- decreasing a value of a feedback again.

    • A charging system for simultaneously charging the batteries of a plurality of battery powered vehicles. The charging includes one or more DC-DC power converters having one or more charging ports configured to plug into the batteries. The DC-DC power converters are each configured to selectively connect to more than one charging port to selectively provide for higher port power levels. The DC-DC power converters connect to an AC rectifier through a DC bus. The AC rectifier connects to an AC power source having a limited power rating. The AC charging system also has a controller that controls the operation of the DC-DC power converters such that the total power draw on the AC rectifier does not exceed the power rating. The system is further configured such that the DC-DC power converters can selected drain batteries to obtain power to charge other batteries, allowing for batteries to be cycled.

    • Generally a secondary battery is used with a hybrid drive in which an electric motor is driven by electric power from an engine-driven generator and/or storage battery. The secondary battery restricts the improvement of fuel efficiency by its low charge/discharge efficiency and requires regular replacements because of its short life, resulting in high running costs. An inventive drive system comprises a plurality of series-connected capacitor cells to form a capacitor bank as a storage device, parallel monitors each connected across each of the capacitor cells to bypass discharge current when a predetermined terminal voltage is reached, and switching converters having a constant current output characteristic to control charging current for the capacitor bank. The drive system achieves improvements in fuel efficiency and running cost.
