    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply arrange an exhaust valve and a catalyst without providing a special space.
      SOLUTION: A muffler 6 of a generally triangular shape in side view is provided and the interior thereof is partitioned into first to third expansion chambers 23-25. A manifold pipe 5 is connected to the second expansion chamber 24 as a middle chamber sideways from a lower portion of the same chamber and is accommodated therein so as to face upward. A catalyst is accommodated in the interior of the manifold pipe 5 and exhaust gas flowing out from an open end 5a of the manifold pipe is expanded into the second expansion chamber 24. A short-circuiting aperture 30 is formed in a second separator 22 and is opened and closed with an exhaust valve installed within the adjacent third expansion chamber 25. The exhaust valve is normally closed, and is urged in its closing direction by spring means. When the exhaust pressure becomes a predetermined magnitude, the exhaust valve opens automatically, allowing the exhaust gas to flow out into the third expansion chamber 25 through the short-circuiting aperture 30, thereby controlling the exhaust pressure.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purifier of a motorcycle engine.
      SOLUTION: The exhaust gas purifier includes a plurality of catalytic converters, and a front supply pipe and a back supply pipe for supplying secondary air, installed between an engine exhaust pipe and a muffler. The front supply pipe connects with the exhaust side of the engine or an exhaust pipe at the front of the muffler, and the back supply pipe connects with connecting piping inside the muffler. Further, at least two catalytic converters are inside the muffler, and are installed between the front supply pipe and the back supply pipe. The catalytic converters are configured of one front catalytic converter for oxidation and at least one middle catalytic converter for oxygen reduction. At least one back catalytic converter is arranged inside the muffler and in the rear of the back supply pipe for supplying secondary air. Thereby, this exhaust gas purifier fulfills the role for realizing double effects of highly efficient oxidation of hazardous exhaust gas by a catalytic process and oxygen reduction.
