The method includes supplying fuel to the engine (300) of the heavy truck at a rate that facilitates engine-idle operation. A method of operating an automated mechanical transmission includes a throttle position sensor and electronic control unit and provides a simulated signal in response to various full throttle positions and travel. Various time and position dependent relationships such as substantially fully depressed throttle, rapidly depressed throttle, throttle maintained substantially fully depressed and throttle substantially fully released before being depressed, i.e., a "pumped" throttle are sensed by the throttle position sensor and interpreted as a throttle kickdown by the electronic control unit which generates a kickdown signal.

摘要： In response to a start-engagement operation command, the control procedure of the invention starts increasing a hydraulic pressure applied to a clutch when a reference time Tc0 decreases to or below a required hydraulic pressure change time Tc1. Here the reference time Tc0 is calculated from a previously learnt time correction value Tc2 and a rotation speed difference between a rotation speed Nin of an input shaft and a rotation speed Ne of an engine (steps S150 to S190). The control procedure learns and updates the time correction value Tc2 according to a variation in acceleration of a vehicle possibly arising in the course of engagement of the clutch (steps S210 to S300). Such learning of the time correction value Tc2 effectively corrects the engagement timing of the clutch, which may be varied by ageing or another cause, to an adequate level. The control procedure of the invention effectively reduces the potential shocks due to a variation in acceleration of the vehicle possibly arising in the course of engagement of the clutch.
