    • The invention relates to a method for determining a shifting step (gear ratio) for a discretely shifting transmission of a motor vehicle on the basis of a registered output speed of the transmission and a predetermined optimum engine speed. According to the inventive method, calculated and/or measured input speeds (22, 23) of the transmission are registered for the shifting steps, and an engine speed (25, 26) is fixed for every shifting step via a hysteresis gear shift mechanism (24). An upshift threshold (10) is calculated from the difference between the input speed (22) of a next-higher shifting step and the engine speed (26), and a downshift threshold (12) is calculated from the sum of the actual input speed (23) and the engine speed (25). When the upshift threshold (10) exceeds the optimum engine speed (28), the transmission is shifted to a higher shifting step and when the optimum engine speed (28) exceeds the downshift threshold (12), the transmission is shifted to a lower shifting step (speed shift necessity (27)).

    • A system for evaluating vehicle drive and operation parameters enables a gear speed ratio to be selected and adjusted according to predetermined calculation rules, characteristic values or characteristic fields by means of a microprocessor. A change in the number of revolutions ( DELTA nb, DELTA nZ) of the engine during the minimum dwelling time ( DELTA tF) and adjustment time ( DELTA tZ) is calculated from these times, taking into account the vehicle acceleration (a). The speed ratio change ( DELTA ig) to be carried out is calculated from a set number of revolutions (nset) or a shift gear number of revolutions (nshift) and is carried out when the real number of revolutions (nreal) exceeds the shift gear number of revolutions (nshift).
