    • A pulsatile pump (P) the outlet of which is infinitely variable between a slow pulsatile flow and increased up to a sharply pulsed flow rate until the pulses run together and a smooth flow results, and which may be varied between wide output pressure and frequency limits. The pump is comprised of a pneumatic control circuit (90), at least two pneumatically isolated compression chambers (61, 63), and a novel inlet/outlet pump cartridge (50) and condition-responsive locking means (300). Operation of the pump is controlled by the use of novel tactile pneumatic response switches (110, 148, 168, 178). Each compression chamber is communicated with a supply of working fluid through the cartridge. Means are provided for varying the operation of the pneumatic circuit and hence the pump. A flow of pressurized fluid (72), such as air or nitrogen, is used as the operating media of the pneumatic circuit, although other fluids may be used. Means for monitoring and adjusting pump system parameters are also provided. The pump operates entirely through the use of pneumatic energy, avoiding the use of electricity.

In the course of moving into one zone having one pressure, the pressure-responsive member of the pumping unit is effective to intake a fluid such as air into the pumping unit. Air is discharged from the pumping unit by the pressure-responsive member in the course of moving from such one zone into another zone having a different pressure.

    • A self-enclosed filter pump system (10) is provided to deliver precise quantities of selected fluids. The system (10) includes a pump assembly (12) of a pneumatically controlled type and a modular filter and fluid bag assembly (14) adapted to mate with the pump assembly (12) during use. The filter and fluid bag assembly (14) is a flexible component which includes a container portion for storing enclosed fluid (16) and an extension portion for mating with the pump assembly (12). A series of fluid flow passages create a fluid flow path from the storage chamber (34) to a first valve bubble, a pump/filter bubble, a second valve bubble and an outlet port. A filter membrane may be secured within the pump filter bubble to filter the fluid (16) to remove particulate matter. The filter and fluid bag assemblies (14) are adapted to isolate the fluid (16) from the pump assembly (12).
