摘要： The invention relates to insulating combinatorial nucleobase oligomers that comprise universal base analogs, where the oligomers are formed by the ligation of two or more oligomer "blocks" via a covalent linkage. Universal bases may serve to insulate specifically binding nucleobases from the effects of the covalent linker region joining two oligomer blocks together, so that the universal bases at least partially negate the Tm penalty caused by the covalent linkage, effective to reduce the required minimal length of the oligomer blocks and the combinatorial oligomer. The resulting insulating nucleobase combinatorial oligomers find use in any hybridization-based application, including use as probes and primers. The combinatorial oligomers of the present invention provide advantages over existing combinatorial oligomer systems currently known in the art.

摘要： Methods for converting of syngas to higher molecular weight products using Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, and methods for optimizing the catalyst systems in the synthesis, are disclosed. In one embodiment, the methods use cobalt/ruthenium Fischer-Tropsch catalysts in combination with an olefin isomerization catalyst, which isomerizes double bonds in C4+ olefins as they are formed. In another embodiment, the methods use Fischer-Tropsch catalysts that may or may not be cobalt/ruthenium catalysts, in combination with olefin isomerization catalysts which are acidic enough to isomerize the C4+ olefins but not too acidic to cause rapid cooking. A benifit of using the relatively less acidic zeolites is that the ratio of iso-paraffins to aromatics is increased relative to when more acidic zeolites are used. Also, the relatively less acidic zeolites do not cook as readily as the relatively more acidic zeolites. The methods can advantageously be optimized using combinatorial chemistry, in which a database of combinations of catalyst systems and, optionally, reaction conditions, which provide various product streams, are generated. As market conditions vary and/or product requirments change, conditions suitable for forming desired products can be identified with little or no downtime.

摘要： Methods for discovering optimum catalyst systems for the conversion of syngas to higher molecular weight products via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis are disclosed. A combinatorial approach is used to identify combinations of catalyst systems useful for performing the reactions. The combinations of catalyst systems include Fischer-Tropsch catalysts and olefin isomerization catalysts. The method can advantageously be used to generate a database of combinations of catalyst system and/or reaction conditions that provide various product streams, such that as market conditions vary and/or product requirements change, conditions suitable for forming desired products can be identified with little or no downtime. The catalysts are combined in a logical manner, for example in the form of arrays. The combinations of catalysts can be evaluated using varied reaction conditions, which can provide a) a combinatorial library of product streams and a database including the combination of catalysts and reaction conditions to provide each product stream and/or b) the optimum combination of catalysts and reaction conditions for obtaining a desired product stream.

摘要： A method and apparatus for performing chemical and biochemical reactions in solution using in situ generated photo-products as reagent or co-reagent. Specifically, the method and apparatus have applications in parallel synthesis of molecular sequence arrays on solid surfaces. There is provided an apparatus for performing light controlled reactions. One of the applications of the apparatus is to control reactions on a solid surface containing a plurality of isolated reaction sites, such as wells (the reactor). Light patterns for effecting the reactions are generated using a computer and a digital optical projector (the optical module). Patterned light is projected onto specific sites on the reactor, where light controlled reactions occur. A preferred application provides the in situ generation of chemical/biochemical reagents that are used in the subsequent chemical and biochemical reactions in certain selected sites among the many possible sites present. One aspect of the claimed invention is to change solution pH by photo-generation of acid or bases in a controlled fashion. Another preferred application is the parallel synthesis of biopolymers, such as oligonucleotides and peptides, wherein the method and apparatus are used for selective deprotection or coupling reactions.
