    • A method for diagnosing an error of a valve in a variable valve timing apparatus is provided to prevent ignition of an engine from being turned off by a delay error by judging the delay error on a retardation direction or an advance direction of the valve based on an integral of a difference between a measured value and a target value of the advance angle and the delay angle. A method for diagnosing an error of a valve in a variable valve timing apparatus comprises the steps of determining if a valve delay error condition for diagnosing a delay error of the valve is satisfied in terms of a battery voltage, an engine temperature and an engine rotation frequency(103). If the valve delay error condition is satisfied, a target value and a control value of the valve are compared with each other to calculate a difference value. If the difference valued exceeds a first value, it is determined whether an intake valve operates. If the intake valve operates, it is determined whether the intake valve operates in an advance direction(109). If the intake value operates in the advance direction, an advance direction integral of the intake valve is calculated based on the difference value and a rotation period of an engine to be stored(111,113). If the advance direction integral of the intake valve lays between a second value and a fourth predetermined value, the intake valve is determined to have a bidirectional error(117).
