A hydraulic control device for a belt type continuously variable transmission includes a line pressure controlling unit(40), a secondary pressure controlling unit(54), and a signal pressure controlling unit(52). The line pressure controlling unit controls oil pressure from a pump as line pressure. The secondary pressure controlling unit controls the line pressure as supplement pressure to a secondary pulley according to a signal pressure. The signal pressure controlling unit controls the signal pressure by draining a part of oil pressure based on the line pressure according to solenoid valving degree so as to maximize the supplement pressure to the secondary pulley during a non-coupling time of a clutch.
