    • The purpose of the present invention is to suppress shift shock in a sub-shift device while maintaining high power performance and high fuel efficiency performance.     • A variable speed control apparatus of a belt type continuously variable transmission is provided to prevent an excessive dropping of a primary pressure by estimating a minimum generation pressure of the primary pressure and setting a target transmission ratio of a continuously variable transmission based on an upper limit of a variable speed. A minimum generation pressure estimation unit estimates a minimum generation pressure of a primary pressure based on a displacement speed of a movable sheave(11a) of a primary pulley(11) and an opening area discharging the primary pressure of a passage at a drain side of a variable speed control valve. A variable speed upper limit calculation unit calculates an upper limit of a variable speed of a continuously variable transmission(10) based on a minimum generation pressure of the primary pressure. A target transmission ratio setting unit sets a target transmission ratio of the continuously variable transmission based on the upper limit of the variable speed.
