    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the remaining amount of remaining water in a muffler at a low level throughout the whole operation range of an engine while ensuring improvement in sound-muffling performance at low speed rotation of an engine and reduction in output loss at high-speed rotation in the muffler reducing the exhaust sound of the engine, and to extensively improve drain performance for the remaining water.
      SOLUTION: The muffler is provided with an inlet pipe 10 for introducing exhaust gas into a sound-muffling chamber CM of a muffler main body 1, and an outlet pipe 20 for discharging the exhaust gas to the outside. The outlet pipe 20 consists of a first outlet pipe 21 for discharging the exhaust gas to the outside the sound-muffling chamber CM all the time, and a second outlet pipe 22 for discharging the exhaust gas in the sound-muffling chamber CM to the outside when the exhaust pressure in the sound-muffling chamber CM is increased to a prescribed value or more. An inlet port 21i in the sound-muffling chamber CM of the first outlet pipe 21 is positioned below an inlet port 22i in the sound-muffling chamber CM of the second outlet pipe 22.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify constitution and stabilize operation so as to provide an optimum acoustic characteristic by communicating the inside of a corrugated pipe with a decompressed pressure source, and closing one of pipes built-in so as to be communicated with a gas feed pipe in the stationary state of a valve element. SOLUTION: The end part of a muffler pipe 3.1 communicated with an exhaust gas feed pipe 1 can be closed by a valve element 5. The valve element 5 is operated using a corrugated pipe 10. The movable end of the corrugated pipe 10 is airtightly closed to hold the valve element 5. The fixed end of the corrugaged pipe 10 is mounted to an opening part 26 of a muffler casing 2. As a result, the inside of the corrugated pipe 10 is directly communicated with the atmosphere through the opening part 26. There is therefore no need to provide a special pressure pipe communicated with the atmosphere from the corrugated pipe 10. Not only a single muffler pipe 3.1 in the muffler casing 2 can be thus opened/closed using the valve element 5 and the corrugated pipe 10, but also a plurality of muffler pipes 3.1-3.3 can be opened/closed using a plurality of valve elements 5 and corrugated pipes 10.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce generation of high frequency sound by taking the range to be brought in surface-contact with at least either the outer peripheral side of an upstream side inner pipe part or the outer peripheral side of a downstream side inner pipe part in relation to an outer pipe part to be vibrated by exhaust pulsation as a vibration transmission damping part. SOLUTION: An upstream side inner pipe part 10, a downstream side inner pipe part 11, and an outer pipe part 12 are provided in a bent part of an exhaust manifold. The upstream side inner pipe part 10 is taken as the upstream side in an exhaust system of an engine. The downstream side inner pipe part 11 is taken as the downstream side in the exhaust system of the engine. The outer pipe part 12 is so arranged as to be brought in surface-contact with the outer peripheral side of the upstream side inner pipe part 10 and the outer peripheral side of the downstream side inner pipe part 11, and the end surface 12a on the upstream side and the end surface 12b on the downstream side are airtightly connected to the upstream side inner pipe part 10 and the downstream side inner pipe part 11 over the whole circumference by welding. Surface contact parts 13, 14 to be brought in surface-contact with the outer peripheral side of the upstream side inner pipe part 10 and the outer peripheral side of the downstream side inner pipe part 11 in relation to the outer pipe part 12 to be vibrated by exhaust pulsation are taken as vibration transmission damping parts.
