    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish both the protection of a transmission and the guarantee of the driveability of a vehicle in the failure of a rear wheel speed sensor. SOLUTION: A drive force control device for vehicle is constituted so that a low friction coefficient road surface is determined by using at least a rear wheel speed detected by a rear wheel speed sensor, and when the low friction coefficient road surface is determined, the restriction of fail cut or shift change is performed to protect a transmission. When the condition of (a) is established, or at least either the condition of (b) or the condition of (c) is established from among the following conditions: (a) a rear wheel sensor is abnormal (step S114); (b) a prescribed time has passed after a shift range is operated from a reverse range to a drive range (step S112); and (c) a shift level is turned to be 3 speeds or more (step S113), the determination of the low friction coefficient road surface using the rear wheel speed which is likely to be abnormal is inhibited, and the rear wheel speed is substituted with the axle speed calculated from the output axial rotational speed of the transmission.
