    • An electric type parking brake system for vehicles is provided to reduce the size of a parking brake while reducing the noise generated by a conventional parking brake by using the rotational force of an electric motor to rotate an equalizer, which pulls parking cables to lock the brake devices on each of the wheels. The electric parking brake is actuated when a driver presses on an operation switch disposed in the driver's seat. An electric type parking brake system for vehicles has a motor(1) supplying engaging or disengaging forces for a parking brake depending on a manipulation of an operation switch disposed near a driver's seat. A rotary gear(2) has a sub gear(4) supporting a main gear(3) which directly receives the rotational force of the motor. A rotary rod(5) is fixed to the main gear and rotates with the main gear. An equalizer(6) is tooth locked to a driving gear unit(5a) installed to an outer circumference of the rotary rod. The equalizer engages in an angular motion by the rotation of the rotary rod, and equally pulls two parking cables(10) connected to braking device(11) on each wheels. A load sensor(9) detects the force exerted on the cables by the equalizer and controls the rotary force of the motor. The equalizer has a motion conversion member(7). The motion conversion member has a following gear(7b) disposed on an outer circumference. The following gear is tooth locked with the driving gear unit of the rotary rod, and generates a rotational force towards 90 degrees perpendicular to the rotational direction of the rotary rod. Cable fixing devices fix the parking cables on two sides of the motion conversion member.
