摘要： A clutch detent mechanism for an outboard motor includes a ball movable with a clutch dog member, a ball retainer member provided in a propeller shaft for retaining the ball in a predetermined position, and a compression coil spring acting on the ball to resiliently force the ball against the ball retainer member. The ball retainer member has a recessed portion for receiving therein the ball to thereby retain the clutch dog member in a neutral position, a front tapered portion provided on one side of the recessed portion for retaining the ball in a position to keep the clutch dog member in a forward shift position, and a rear tapered portion provided on the other side of the recessed portion for retaining the ball in a position to keep the clutch dog member in a reverse shift position.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dual speed transmission that permits the occurrence of torque shutoff to avoid the problem of "clunking" as the boat is put into, or taken out of, gear.SOLUTION: A two speed transmission system particularly for marine use includes: a first clutch 44 for connecting an input shaft to a co-axial output shaft 34; a lay shaft 56 parallel to the input and output shafts; a first gear train for connecting the input shaft to the lay shaft; and a second gear train for connecting the lay shaft to the output shaft. The first clutch connects the input shaft to the output shaft; and a second clutch is selected to provide a higher speed gear meshing. A control system receives inputs from sensors including clutch pressure sensors 62, sensors 82, 64 measuring the speed of the input shaft and output shafts respectively and sensors 66 providing information relating to the position of gears in the gear trains to control solenoids to allow slipping of the clutch.

The gear ratio between the first gear and the third gear is the same as the gear ratio of the second gear and the fourth gear.
