    • PURPOSE:To provide a drive device for thermal head which is capable of suppressing the rise of temperature of a head substrate by controllably reducing the amount of power to be supplied to a head at the center of a portion of black picture when the head receives picture signals which requires more power than a certain value during a unit of time. CONSTITUTION:A memory is caused to memorize in sequence the picture information of one line at least and a circuit detects the recorded condition of the line from the contents of the memory and it controls the amount of power to be supplied to a thermal head according to the detected condition. For instance, shift registers SR1, SR2 are caused to shift and accumulate the data of one scan line of picture signals BS, and the shift registers check the condition of picture signals of the previous 2 lines at the same timing as that they switch input picture signals, and select density 1 by opening AND gate G3 when both 2 lines are black information, select density 2 when only the immediately preceding line is black information, and select density 3 when both 2 lines are white information.

CONSTITUTION:The starting signal ST applied through an inverter 24 clears a counter 21 and a JK type flip-flop (FF)23. Then, when a data enable signal EB is ''1'', a reference clock signal CK0 is inputted through an AND gate 20 to the counter 21. I: When the counted value becomes a given value K, however, the output Q of the FF23 is ''1'' while Q' is ''0'', so that a clock signal CK1 and the data DT1 of a picture signal DT0 are sent to a shift register on one side through an AND gate 27 and an AND gate 25 respectively. II: Then, when the value of the counter 21 becomes the given value K again, the output of the FF23 is inverted (Q is ''0'' while Q' is ''1''), so that a clock signal CK2 and data DT2 are sent to a shift register on the other side.

Then, SiO2 films 10a, 10b, and 10c are deposited. A metallic electrode 11 and a gate terminal 12 are formed on 10a. Furthermore, CdTe and CdS are alternately layered, and the p-n-p structure and the n-p-n structure are constituted. Finally a p type semiconductor film 16 and a p type semiconductor film 15 are connected by a metallic electrode 18, and the thin film thyristor is obtained.
