    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deployment of an air bag or suppress a deploying force when an occupant leans against an air bag device or a vehicle body member near the air bag device. SOLUTION: An air bag device 1 for a front passenger seat is installed on an instrument panel 2, and a bracket 4 is attached to a vehicle body side member 3 by a bolt 5 and the like. A distortion gauge 6 is attached to the bracket 4. When the occupant leans against a lid 14 covering the front surface side of a retainer 10, the weight of the occupant is transmitted to the bracket 4 through the retainer 10, and minute distortion is generated on the bracket 4. The distortion is detected by the distortion gauge 6. When a gas generator is actuated while the distortion gauge 6 detects the distortion, a blocking member 20 opens a discharging port 30. Therefore, a part of the generated gas is released from the discharging port 30 to the outside of the retainer 10, thereby suppressing the deployment force of the air bag 12.
