    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation method for enabling continuous operation of a vertical scavenging two-cycle large diesel engine without risk of breakage of parts or enlargement of overhaul interval without increasing emission of nitrogen oxide even under a low load, and provide an engine which can be easily obtained by modifying an existing engine in such a way that the operation method is applicable. SOLUTION: In the large diesel engine 1, a gas valve 91, a shut-off valve 92, etc., are provided at a first exhaust gas inlet 810, for example, and in a case of low load, exhaust gas flow passing these is reduced depending on an operation parameter of the engine, that is a given value of the load for decreasing the emission gas flow passing a first exhaust gas turbo charger 81 taking in fresh air 7 and/or exhaust gas flow passing a second exhaust gas turbo charger 82, so that the optimum thermodynamic performance of the engine is maintained along the whole load range. Continuous operation under a low load is thus enabled without increase in emission of nitrogen oxide, increase in fuel consumption, or deterioration of output. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
