    • The method comprises the steps of:
      - storing a curve or characteristic (C O ) of torque (T) transmitted by the friction clutch (FC) as a function of the position (X) of the clutch,
      - calculating a desired value of the torque to be transmitted by means of the clutch (FC), and
      - modifying the position (X) of the clutch (FC) so as to bring it to the position (X) to which the desired transmitted torque value (T) corresponds according to the stored curve or characteristic (C O ),
      - upon the occurrence of predetermined operative conditions, estimating the value (TC) of the torque (T) transmitted by the clutch (FC), by means of an algorithm, as a function of the detected instantaneous values of the torque delivered (T E ) and of the angular velocity (ω E ) of the shaft (S) of the engine (E), and detecting the corresponding instantaneous position or estimate position (XC) of the clutch (FC), and
      - then modifying the previously stored curve or characteristic (C O ) in accordance with predetermined procedures in dependence on the difference (ΔT) between the estimated value (TC) of the torque (T) transmitted and that value of the torque (T) transmitted which corresponds to the estimate position (XC) according to the previously stored curve or characteristic (C O ).
