    • An implantable therapy generator that includes sensing circuitry that senses cardiac signals representative of atrial activity and ventricular activity; detection circuitry connected to the sensing circuitry; control circuitry that controls generation and selective delivery of a multi-stage atrial cardioversion therapy to implanted electrodes, each stage of the therapy including multiple pulses, each pulse including multiple high-frequency sub-pulses; and therapy circuitry. The therapy circuitry includes a high-voltage charging circuit charging a storage capacitor to a predetermined voltage; a delivery capacitor connectable to the storage capacitor; and a control circuit adapted to selectively cause the storage capacitor to be electrically connected to the delivery capacitor so as to charge the delivery capacitor to a predetermined delivery voltage, and to cause a delivery switching circuit to be repeatedly opened and closed at a predetermined rate, thereby causing the sub-pulses to be transmitted to the electrodes.

    • An apparatus and method for delivering an electrical defibrillation signal to a heart (36) transcutaneously. The apparatus (1 ) includes an external transmitter part (5) and implantable receiver part (3) arranged so that an RF pulse (22, 24) can be wirelessly transmitted through a barrier (29) and received internally to apply a defibrillating pulse to a heart (36). The oscillator (22) and the keying unit (24) are powered via a power source (2). The external transmitter (5) comprises a capacitor arrangement (8) connected to the power source (2) and a high voltage DC to DC converter (6), The capacitor (8) is connected through a resonant circuit (10) to circuitry (16, 18) operable to discharge the capacitor (8) through the resonant circuitry (10) and excite the primary coil (12) and cause RF pulse transmission. The primary coil (12) is inductively coupled to the secondary coil (30) of the implantable receiver (3), to enable instant wireless transmission of the RF pulse across the barrier (29). The receiver (3) further comprises a resonant circuit, rectification circuitry (32) and filtering circuitry (34).

    • Methods and apparatus for a three-stage atrial cardioversion therapy that treats atrial arrhythmias within pain tolerance thresholds of a patient. An implantable therapy generator adapted to generate and selectively deliver a three-stage atrial cardioversion therapy and at least two leads operably each having at least one electrode adapted to be positioned proximate the atrium of the patient. The device is programmed with a set of therapy parameters for delivering a three-stage atrial cardioversion therapy to the patient via both a far-field configuration and a near-field configuration of the electrodes upon detection of an atrial arrhythmia. The three-stage atrial cardioversion therapy includes a first stage for unpinning of one or more singularities associated with an atrial arrhythmia, a second stage for anti-repinning of the one or more singularities associated with the atrial arrhythmia, both of which are delivered via the far-field configuration of the electrodes, and a third stage for extinguishing of the one or more singularities associated with the atrial arrhythmia delivered via the near-field configuration of the electrodes.
