摘要： An electronically controlled, liquid-crystal eyeglass system is provided, designed for intermittent occlusion, while exercising the eyes of a user, through combined occlusion-and-exercising sessions, wherein the eyeglass system includes features to improve and monitor compliance. Specifically, features to improve compliance include an ordinary eyeglass design, wherein the electronic components are miniaturized and hidden, and a reflective coating on the exterior surfaces of the lenses, for identical exterior appearance, even when the two lenses operate at different opacity levels. In this manner, the liquid-crystal eyeglass system does not attract attention. Additionally, a fashionable design, and possibly also, a fashionable designer's brand name may be employed. In order to monitor compliance, the times, dates, and durations of the occlusion-and-exercising sessions that took place are recorded by the system. A computerized implement is provided, to present feedback to the user, preferably, in a playful manner. The liquid-crystal eyeglass system may be used in the treatment of amblyopia, strabismus, and a weak eye, and may be integrated with sunglasses and (or) with glasses for corrective vision.

摘要： Apparatus is provided for reducing hypertension of a subject. A selective circumferential pressure applicator (60) includes at least two surfaces (61) that increase baroreceptor activity of the subject, by applying pressure to an artery (20) of the subject at two or more respective non-contiguous regions around the circumference of the artery, at a longitudinal site of the artery, such that between the non-contiguous regions, at the longitudinal site (a) there is at least one region (22) of the artery that is more relaxed than in the absence of the device, and (b) there is at least one region (21) of the artery that is more tense than in the absence of the device. A joint (63) couples the surfaces to each other. For at least a portion of the subject's cardiac cycle, the joint does not to contact the subject's artery. Other applications are also provided.

摘要： Apparatus and methods are described for generating a hole in a subject's nail. A nail penetration device (20) has a nail-contacting surface (26), a first electrode (29) being disposed on the surface. A skin-contact sensor unit (27) detects contact between the surface and the nail bed, the sensor unit including a pair of second electrodes (31) disposable on the subject's skin. A control unit (33) generates a hole in the subject's nail by moving the surface, while the surface is in contact with the nail. The control unit drives current having a given set of parameters via the first electrode, and detects a voltage between the second electrodes. The control unit does not move the surface, in response to detecting a change in the voltage between the second electrodes that is indicative of the current having travelled to the pair of second electrodes.
