    • The present invention relates to a door protection system (1) for protecting the doors (5A-D) of a vehicle (3). The door protection system (1) includes a processor (7) configured to receive obstruction data identifying the position of one or more obstructions (O) in relation to the vehicle (3). The processor (7) determines the proximity of each vehicle door (5A-D) to the obstruction(s) and outputs a notification signal based on the determined proximity. A door position signal can be received from a door position sensor (29A-D) associated with each door (5A-D). The processor (7) can determine the proximity of each vehicle door (5A-D) to the obstruction(s) based on the door position signal in combination with the obstruction data. In an alternate arrangement, the door protection system (1) is configured to monitor one or more vehicle systems to determine when a vehicle occupant is preparing to open the vehicle door (5A-D). The present invention also relates to a vehicle (3) incorporating the door protection system (1) and a related method of protecting a vehicle door (5A-D).

    • An Intelligent emergency braking (IEB) system for a subject vehicle comprises a forwardfacing camera, a forward-facing ultrasonic parking distance control transceiver; and a computer. The camera is adapted to provide the computer with captured image data and to process the data to detect objects in front of the subject vehicle; and optionally automatically to invoke the vehicle's braking systems. This occurs when the confidence with which the computer calculates that a detected object is a person or is an object vehicle exceeds a first predetermined level and the subject vehicle will collide with the person or object vehicle. Likewise, the ultrasonic transceiver is adapted to provide the computer with transceiver data, and the computer is adapted to process the transceiver data to detect objects in front of the vehicle; and again, optionally, automatically to invoke the vehicle braking systems in the event that the vehicle will collide with an object detected. However the computer also automatically invokes the vehicle braking system when the confidence with which the computer calculates on the basis of the captured image data that an image is of an object exceeds only a second predetermined level less than said first level; when the vehicle will collide with the detected object; and when the ultrasonic transceiver provides the computer with transceiver data consistent with the object detected through the captured image data.
