    • The invention relates to a combustion gas purifier, more particularly, a purifier for controlling contaminants in emissions resulting from internal combustion in engines. The invention is characterized in that it comprises a reaction chamber containing liquid, in addition to purification and filtering means, in which an outer admission tube reaching said purifier is connected by one of its ends to the exhaust pipe of the engine whose gases are to be purified. Said admission tube distributes the fluids throughout its entire length and allows them to escape towards the liquid through a series of holes made in said admission tube in the area in which said tube contacts the liquid, thereby bringing about bubbling as a result of the thrust given to the expulsion gases by the engine.

    • A reactor that can be attached to the exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine to oxidize and burn carbon soot particles, carbon monoxide, and unburned hydrocarbons, and to dissociate nitrogen and sulfur oxides. The reactor has a reaction zone (20) that contains porous heat-retaining foam cells (30) and that is bounded by a porous heat-retaining zone (4), which in turn is surrounded by ceramic insulation materials (6, 7) to minimize energy losses. Engine exhaust (1) at elevated temperatures and containing some oxygen (air) enters the reaction zone (20). By impinging heat transfer, thermal radiation enhancement, energy trapping and combustion of engine emissions, temperatures sufficient to oxidize carbon soot particles, carbon monoxide, and unburned hydrocarbons are attained. Steam or atomized water droplets (104) are introduced to improve the efficiency of the reactor through gasification, regasification, water shift reactions, methanation, and hydrocracking reactions. Harmless product (12) of the oxidation reactions, H2O and CO2, are released from the reactor.
