    • In electrophotographic process and apparatus of this invention, a drum-like photosensitive member and an endless toner-image bearing member are used. The bearing member is brought into close contact at a part thereof with the sensitive member. The sensitive member is electrically charged. After the bearing member is brought into close contact with the sensitive member, a latent image is formed on the sensitive member. The latent image is developed from an outer side of the bearing member so that a toner image is formed on its surface. To perform ordinary printing, the toner image is transferred onto a support member and then fixed. To conduct printing of multiple copies by using a master, the toner image on the bearing member is fused first to form a master, followed successively by electrical charging of the sensitive member, close contact of the master with the sensitive member, and whole-surface exposure from an outer side of the master. A latent image is formed on the sensitive member. Development of the latent image forms a toner image on the master, which is transferred onto a support member and then fixed.

    • A recording system for recording visible images on a recording medium according to source image information, including a coating device applying to the medium at least one kind of image-recording toner including a photosensitive toner, and an exposing device image-wise exposing the medium having thereon the photosensitive toner, to a radiation having the source image information so as to form on the medium images representing the source image information. The coating device may apply to the medium at least one of the photosensitive microcapsules and developer material which serve as the at least one kind of toner, according to the source image information, and the exposing device may expose to the radiation the medium having the microcapsules serving as the photosensitive toner so as to form microcapsule-based latent images. The recording system may further includes an electrostatic body, and a switching device selectively permitting the exposure of the medium having thereon the photosensitive toner, and exposure to the radiation of the electrostatic body for forming electrostatic latent images according to which the at least one kind of toner is adhered thereto. The switching device may selectively permit the exposure of the electrostatic body for forming the electrostatic latent images, and exposure to the radiation of the photosensitive toner adhered to the electrostatic body.

    • Method and apparatus for operating a copier-duplicator which initially produces a master and thereafter produces copies from the master. The copier-duplicator is enabled upon receipt of a valid access code to begin producing the master and copies thereof. Counts of the number of masters and copies are accumulated. The copy count is compared against a minimum amount and each time a new master is made and if the number of copies produced is less than said minimum, a violation count is stored together with its associated access code. If the copier-duplicator is in a lock-out mode, access is denied to the access code having a violation. If in a flag mode, access to the machine is permitted even if a violation code is present. However, there is a capability of displaying all of those access codes having a violation associated therewith. It is further possible to prevent access to the copier-duplicator in the event that the number of copies or masters exceeds a maximum permissible amount.

    • An apparatus in which a sheet is advanced into registration with different color information developed on master sheets secured releasably on different drums. Each master sheet is secured to a gripper bar having outwardly extending pins. The pins in the master sheet gripper bars mount in holes in the drum and extend outwardly therefrom. A chain driven gripper bar advances the sheet into registration with successive master sheets. The sheet gripper bar is mounted pivotably and slidably on the chain. The sheet gripper bar has notches in the leading edge thereof to mesh with the pins extending from the master sheet gripper bar. This detachably couples the sheet and the master sheet to move in unison with one another. In this way, the sheet is placed in registration with the different color information developed on each master sheet. After the color information is transferred from the master sheet to the sheet, the sheet gripper is decoupled from the pins and advances with the chain to place the sheet in registration with the next successive master sheet.

    • A color image recording apparatus includes an exposure device in the housing for exposing a photosensitive recording medium to light through a mask member which has been produced based on image information. A light-transmissive contacting plate for holding the mask member and the photosensitive recording medium closely against each other is disposed in a mask member feed belt and connected to a belt support frame assembly. A positioning unit for positioning the mask member with respect to the photosensitive recording medium comprises a link mechanism for moving the belt support frame assembly. The belt support frame assembly and the housing are operatively connected by the link mechanism. The color image recording apparatus further includes a charging unit for electrically charging at least a surface of the feed belt with which the mask member will be brought into contact. The surface of the feed belt comprises an electrically chargeable, relatively hard coated layer. A discharging unit for removing electrostatic charges from the mask member is disposed near an end of the feed belt for receiving the mask member and positioned in confronting relation to a surface of the feed belt. The color image recording apparatus also includes a resist roller held against the end of the feed belt, at least one sensor for detecting a positioning mark on the mask member, and a guide member for guiding the mask member onto the feed belt.

    • A primary imaging member, for example, a photoconductive web is used to form a series of primary toner images. Each toner image in the series is transferred to a separate secondary imaging member. The secondary image members can be drums covered by blank master sheets. Masters are formed on the secondary imaging members defined by the primary toner image. For example, the primary toner images can be fused to the master sheets to form xeroprinting masters. The masters are used to form transferable color images that are transferred back to the primary imaging member in registration to form a multicolor image. The multicolor image can be transferred to a receiving sheet.
