    • (1) A coating resin composition consisting essentially of a self-crosslinking resin (I) having at least one hydroxyl group and at least one blocked isocyanate group in the molecule wherein the resin (I) is prepared by reacting some of the free isocyanate groups of a vinyl polymer (A) having at least two free isocyanate groups in the molecule with some of the hydroxyl groups of a polyolefin resin (B) having at least two hydroxyl groups in the molecule, and subsequently reacting a blocking agent with the remaining free isocyanate groups, and (2) a coating resin composition consisting essentially of a self-crosslinking resin (II) having at least one hydroxyl group and at least one blocked isocyanate group in the molecule wherein the resin (II) is prepared by reacting all free isocyanate groups of a vinyl polymer (C) having at least one free isocyanate group and at least one blocked isocyanate group in the molecule with some of the hydroxyl groups of a polyolefin resin (B) having at least two hydroxyl groups in the molecule.

    • The invention provides a method of forming a coating film by forming in sequence a pigmented base coat and a clear top coat on a substrate followed by finishing by the two-coat one-bake technique, the method being characterized by using, as a coating composition for pigmented base coat formation, a composition comprising, as essential components thereof,(1) an OH-containing resin,(2) an amino resin,(3) a polyorganosiloxane which has, on an average, at least two groups, per molecule, each selected from the class consisting of a silanol group and an alkoxysilane group and has a number average molecular weight of at least 1,000,(4) a metal chelate compound(5) a flaky metal powder and/or a mica powder, and(6) an organic solvent,and using, as a coating composition for clear top coat formation, a composition comprising, as essential components thereof,(1) an OH- and epoxy-containing base resin which further contains at least one group selected from the group consisting of a silanol group and a hydrolyzable group bound directly to a silicon atom,(2) a curing catalyst, and(3) an organic solvent.

    • Disclosed is a coating method comprising the steps of applying a base coat composition to a substrate, applying a clear coating composition to the coated surface while the applied base coat composition is still uncured and curing the two coating compositions thus applied at the same time, the method being characterized in that the base coat composition is an aqueous one containing a coloring pigment and that the clear coating composition is a curable one containing a basal resin and a curing catalyst as main components, the basal resin being a resin (Y) having in the molecule hydroxyl group and/or hydrolyzable group both directly attached to the silicon atom, and epoxy group or a resin mixture (Z) of a resin or a compound (Z-1) having hydroxyl group and/or hydrolyzable group both directly attached to the silicon atom and a resin (Z-2) having epoxy group.
