    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To require rather small space requirement, operate rapidly, require only a slight operation stroke for moving from a first transporting device to a second transporting device, allow short moving distance, and assure trouble-free operation in a device for transporting article pieces. SOLUTION: This device for transporting the article pieces in two transportation directions crossing each other comprises the first transporting device 3 and the second transporting device 6 for pulling out a continuous article 1' from an article storage part. Then, the article pieces 1 can be transported in the second transportation direction perpendicular to the first transportation direction 2 by the second transporting device 6. The second transporting device 6 comprises four tightening/transporting portions 7, 8, 9, and 10, and the fourth portion 11 of these portions can be moved in a short stroke so that the formation of loop can be performed by the fourth portion 11 without being obstructed by the first transporting device 3 and can be moved to the operating position without allowing the fourth portion 11 to be substantially come into contact with the loop at a target position.
