    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for positioning a columnar structure that can improve the quality characteristics, such as thermal shock resistance, isostatic strength, thermal stresses, and mechanical stresses, in the columnar structure (ceramic honeycomb structure), obtained by making the center axis of the columnar structure and that of a pedestal nearly uniform, for unifying a coating thickness when coating the outer-periphery surface of the columnar structure, and can improve the productivity, since the drying properties of a coating section are superior.
      SOLUTION: The columnar structure 1 is placed on the pedestal 3; a positioning fixing jig 24 is brought into contact with the pedestal 3 on which the columnar structure 1 is placed; the columnar structure 1 is moved from the pedestal 3, while the columnar structure 1 is in contact at two points or one point by a positioning adjusting jig 25 that makes it abut against the positioning fixing jig 24; and the columnar structure 1 is brought into contact with the positioning fixing jig 24, so as to position the pedestal 3 to substantially coincide the center axis of the columnar structure 1, and supporting the columnar structure 1 at four points or three points with the positioning fixing jig 24 and the positioning adjusting jig 25.
