    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction mechanism assembly structure for an automatic transmission in which assembly property of a friction mechanism is improved by designing an inner diameter of a clearance adjusting element for adjusting a clearance between the friction mechanism and a piston into such a size that no interference occurs with the other friction mechanism.SOLUTION: A friction mechanism assembly structure for an automatic transmission comprises: a friction mechanism which is configured to alternately dispose a plurality of discs and plates and to make the disc and the plate frictional with each other by pressure of a piston; and a clearance adjusting element which is provided in an end portion of the friction mechanism, adjusts a clearance formed between the friction mechanism and the piston, is formed hollow, and is formed with the inner diameter thereof larger than an outer-most outer diameter of another friction mechanism provided inside of the friction mechanism, so as to be assembled without interference of the other friction mechanism.
