    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a muffler of an internal combustion engine capable of increasing the durability of an exhaust emission control member by preventing exhaust emission from an exhaust port of an internal combustion engine from being discharged directly on the exhaust emission control member, making uniform an inlet side temperature distribution on the exhaust emission control member, and suppressing the surface temperature of a muffler as low as possible. SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 1 comprises a generally longitudinal expansion chamber to which exhaust emission discharged from an exhaust port 10 of the internal combustion engine 1 is introduced. The expansion chamber is divided vertically into a first expansion chamber 31 and a second expansion chamber 32 through a partition member 40, an exhaust emission control member 50 comprising an oxidation catalyst is disposed on the partition member 40, and exhaust emission from the exhaust port 10 is introduced from the first expansion chamber 31 to the second expansion chamber 32 through the exhaust emission control member 40. The exhaust emission control member 40 is disposed in the direction vertical to the exhaust emission jet direction apart by arbitrary distance from the exhaust port 10.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent the blowoff of a spark, by forming a blowoff port, for leading an exhaust gas in an expansion chamber to a gap space, on an inner wall panel out of a double wall part forming the outer peripheral part of the expansion chamber; and also an exhaust opening, for discharging the exhaust gas outside from the gap space, on an outer wall panel. SOLUTION: An exhaust gas blown off from an exhaust port 10 is, at least, blown through inside/outside a venturi tube 25, and is introduced into a first expansion chamber 31 at a speed near to a sound speed, to be expandedly diffused to attenuate an exhaust sound, after that, is led into a second expansion chamber 32 via the inside of a catalytic oxidation 50 partitioned by a partitioning plate 40. Outside air is sucked from an outside air introducing pipe 26 by negative pressure, generated when the exhaust gas blows through the venturi tube 25, and is supplied, together with the exhaust gas, into the expansion chamber 31, to promote the oxidizing action of CO. The exhaust gas is blowen off to the second gap space Sb of a double wall part 32A from respective blowoff ports 61, 62, and 64, to be cooled during flowing the gap space Sb to extinguish a spark, and then is led into an exhaust port 37A.
