    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission including a dog clutch, in which hitting sound produced by engagement during gear connection can be reduced.SOLUTION: In the automatic transmission 1, one gear C6 of two adjacent coaxial gears is provided unrotatably in the shaft circumferential direction and freely slidably in the axial direction, and another gear C2 is provided unslidably in the axial direction with respect to a shaft and freely rotatably in the shaft circumferential direction. Gear stages are configured switchable by engagement and releasing the engagement of a dowel 50 provided to the one gear C6 and a dowel hole 70 provided to the other gear C2. Sliding operation of the gear C6 is performed through a transmission mechanism 20. Opposing wall faces of the dowel 50 and a dowel column 60 configuring the dowel hole 70 are configured to be large so that an engagement opportunity between the dowel 50 and the dowel hole 70 becomes less compared to a transmission in which sliding operation of the gear C6 is manually performed. During switching of the gear stages, after the opposing wall faces of the dowel 50 and the dowel column 60 are abutted with each other by the transmission mechanism, separation and contact between the gears C2 and C6 are repeated by the transmission mechanism 20.
