    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of easily and inexpensively detecting abnormality of a vehicle during traveling.SOLUTION: A vehicle abnormality detection apparatus 1 includes wheel weight sensors 11 arranged on right and left rails R composing a railroad to measure wheel weights of wheels 3 attached to a vehicle 2 and an operation part 12 for computing wheel weight data transmitted from the wheel weight sensors 11 and calculating an index concerned with vehicle abnormality. The method for detecting abnormality of the vehicle 2 includes: an index definition step for previously defining indexes used for detecting the vehicle abnormality and expressed by the wheel weights of at least one or more pairs of right and left vehicle wheels 3 attached to a truck 4 in each sort of vehicle abnormality; a measurement step for measuring the wheel weights of the at least one or more pairs of right and left wheels 3 attached to the truck 4 by using the wheel weight sensors 11 attached to the railroad; and a detection step for detecting the vehicle abnormality on the basis of the respective indexes previously defined in each sort of vehicle abnormality in the index definition step and the wheel weights measured in the measurement step.

      SOLUTION: At least the wheel load/lateral pressure data during the vehicular travel which is automatically measured when a vehicle is passing by a wheel load/lateral pressure measurement sensor installed on the ground side of a curved section of a track, and the vehicle specification recognition signal and/or the traveling vehicle monitoring TV signal for specifying the vehicle are collectively transferred to a remote place, and the transferred data is analyzed at the remote place to constantly monitor the states of the track and the vehicle. The states of the track and the vehicle in the curved section are constantly monitored, and abnormality, if any, is discovered in an early stage to perform adequate countermeasures. Thus, the preventive maintenance can be achieved.
