    • A torque transfer assembly for a motor vehicle comprises a ring gear subassembly and a differential subassembly rotatably supported in said ring gear subassembly, a friction clutch pack for coupling the ring gear subassembly to the differential subassembly, and a hydraulic clutch actuator for selectively frictionally loading the clutch pack. The hydraulic clutch actuator includes a variable pressure relief valve assembly to selectively control the friction clutch pack.     • The invention relates to a speed differential-dependent hydraulic clutch comprised of a drive housing (11), which rotates inside a housing (20), of a first shaft (21), which can be rotationally connected to the drive housing, of a second shaft (22), which is rotationally connected to the drive housing, of a hydrostatic positive-displacement machine (1), of a friction clutch (12) for connected the first shaft (21) to the drive housing (11), and of a piston (10) for acting upon the friction clutch (12). The drive housing (11) has a pressure chamber (9) and a pressure is generated in the pressure chamber (9) when a differential speed occurs. Said pressure causes the friction clutch (12) to be acted upon. A channel (13) leads from the pressure chamber to a control valve (14), which opens the way to a chamber of a lower pressure in a controlled manner. In order to enable a sensitive, precise and rapid control and adaptation of the characteristic with the lowest possible complexity, the control valve (14) is arranged inside the drive housing (11) and/or inside the second shaft (22), which is rotationally connected to the drive housing (11), in a manner that is coaxial to said shaft. In addition, the control valve comprises a control element (52), which can be displaced in the direction of the axis and which is actuated by an actuator (59, 61, 62) that is fixed to the housing.

    • A walk-behind working machine (10) includes an engine (14), a pair of rear wheels (13, 13), and a traveling clutch (30) interposed between the engine and the rear wheels. The clutch includes a case (24) containing lubricating oil (Ju), a driving member (22b) having a female portion (38), and a driven member (32) having a male portion (39). The driving and driven members are submerged in the oil. The clutch provides a characteristic curve shown in a coordinate system where a vertical axis of the system shows a coefficient of friction (µ) between the female and male portions and a horizontal axis of the system shows a parameter obtained by multiplying a viscosity (η) of the oil by the number of times (N) the male portion rotates relative to the female portion per second, and then dividing the resulting product by a surface pressure (P) between the female and male portions. The characterristic curve includes first and second straight lines (C1, C2). The first and second straight lines meet each other at a bent point (Cp). The bent point corresponds to a switch point when the working machine is switched from a high load running state to a low load running state or vice versa. The female portion may have a helical groove (38b) and plural straight grooves (38a') formed on a surface thereof. The straight grooves extend perpendicular to the helical groove.

    • A hydraulic coupling (10) for use in motor vehicle driveline applications to limit speed differentiation and transfer drive torque between two rotary members. The hydraulic coupling includes a multi-plate clutch assembly (22) operably connecting the two relatively rotatable members, and a sealed actuator assembly (20) for actuating the clutch assembly (22) in response to the magnitude of speed differentiation between the two rotary members. The actuator assembly (20) includes a hydraulic pump (24) and a piston (70) which are sealed relative to the clutch assembly (22). The sealed actuator assembly (20) includes an internal recirculation path for supplying hydraulic fluid retained therein between a low pressure supply chamber (130) at the inlet side of the hydraulic pump (24) and a high pressure piston chamber (72) provided at the discharge side of the hydraulic pump (24). Hydraulic pressure in the piston chamber (72) controls the magnitude of the clutch engagement force exerted by the piston (70) on the clutch assembly (22). As a further feature, the recirculation path includes a flow restrictor (146) which provides a bleed flow path for supplying high pressure fluid from the piston chamber (72) to the supply chamber (130) following cessation of the pumping action to release the clutch assembly (22).

    • A differential device (11) of the type including a clutch pack (23), engaged by a ball ramp actuator (21), which is initiated by a viscous coupling (19;101). The output of the device (11) is an output shaft (13) which is hollow and extends through the entire axial extent of the device. The viscous coupling (19;101) includes, in the embodiment of FIG. 1, an annular input coupling member (25) and an annular output coupling member (27), within the input member, to define therebetween a cylindrical viscous shear chamber (29). The output coupling member (27) at least partially surrounds the first ramp plate (41) of the ball ramp actuator (21), and is in driving engagement therewith, for improved packaging. The clutch pack (23) and the actuator (21) are disposed about the output shaft (13) and axially retained between snap rings (55,93), so that all axial separation forces generated within the clutch pack and the actuator are taken up within a single member, such as the output shaft (13), rather than being exerted on the connection of the housing (17) and the end cap (15). In the FIG. 5 embodiment, the viscous coupling (101) is in driven engagement with the inner periphery of the first ramp plate (41), with the viscous coupling being of the type including interleaved plates (107,109).
