    • The invention relates to a method and a device for adjusting the output torque or the output revolutions per minute of an internal combustion engine for protecting differential gearboxes. The invention is characterised in that the difference speeds or the difference revolutions per minute are calculated and monitored in the transversal direction of any vehicle (front, rear end and all-wheel drive). A difference of the cardan speeds is additionally present in the longitudinal direction in all-wheel drives. The drive torque is automatically reduced or the motor speed is automatically limited to a well tolerated measure when predetermined threshold values are exceeded. Said protection function for the differentials cannot be switched off and is also available when the drive torque control (AMR) is switched passively. The protection function can only be realised by means of software using already existing sensors and controlling devices. Application expenditure is minimal.
