摘要： What is disclosed are medical devices comprising a rounded, thin-walled, expandable metal structure ("ballstent") and a flexible, elongated delivery device ("delivery catheter") and systems and methods of use for treating saccular vascular aneurysms with the medical devices. Ballstents comprised of gold, platinum, or silver that can be compressed, positioned in the lumen of an aneurysm, and expanded to conform to the shape of the aneurysm are disclosed. The external surface of ballstents can be configured to promote local thrombosis and to promote the growth of tissue into and around the wall of the ballstent in order to seal the aneurysm and fix the ballstent in place in the aneurysm. The wall of the ballstent can also be configured to release drugs or pharmacologically active molecules, such as those that promote thrombosis, cell proliferation, extracellular matrix deposition, and tissue growth.

摘要： A vasoocclusive coil is reinforced with a stretch resistant member to improve safety during retraction of the coil. The stretch resistant member is fixedly attached at one end to the vasoocclusive coil, and the other end of the stretch resistant member is detachably mounted to an elongated pusher member to allow for placement and release of the vasoocclusive coil within the patient's vasculature. The stretch resistant member may be formed from a therapeutic and/or bioactive non-metallic material to enhance the therapeutic properties of the vasoocclusive coil.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for treating vascular abnormalities in highly tortuous vessels are provided comprising a stent (10) having at least one end region (16) that engages a first portion of a circumference of a vessel in a region adjacent to an abnormality to anchor the stent (10), and a mid-region (15) that engages a second portion (18) of the circumference of the vessel wall to span the abnormality, the second portion (18) having a smaller circumferential extent than the first portion (16). The mid-region (15) includes a plurality of members (20) that span the abnormality and form a lattice that occludes the abnormality. A delivery system (30) also is provided to deliver the stent within a parent artery and orient the mid-region (15) of the stent (10) to span the abnormality.
