    • Delivery and detachment of an implant (20) can be enhanced by a retraction mechanism to secure portions of a delivery wire (44) within an interior space of the implant (20). A delivery system (10) can include an implant (20) having a proximal end portion (50). A delivery wire (44) can include (i) a detachment zone (30) proximal to the proximal end portion (50) and (ii) a distal region (80) distal to the proximal end portion. An expansion member (60) can be located between the proximal end portion (50) and the distal region (80) of the delivery wire. The expansion member (60) can be biased to move the distal region (80) of the delivery wire (44) distally away from the proximal end portion (50) when severed at the detachment zone (30).

Embolic material (28, 62) may be inserted in the aneurysm (20) before or after positioning the device (50, 80, 110, 130). The device (50, 80, 110, 130) may have a first end (81, 111, 131), a second end (81, 112, 132) substantially opposite to the first end (81, 111, 131), and a plurality of filaments (84, 114, 134) extending between and coupled at the first end (81, 111, 131) and the second end (82, 112, 132). Such devices (50, 80, 110, 130) may be football shaped, pumpkin shaped, or twisted. The device (50) may include a plurality of loops (52) forming a generally spherical shape.
