    • A system, computer program product, and related methods are described for obtaining, processing, and/or and archiving full-field breast image data, such as full-field breast ultrasound (FFBU) data, in a manner that promotes ready integration with current x-ray mammogram-based breast cancer screening methodologies, and which can alternatively be used to support a full-field-only environment. Two-dimensional thick-slice images computed from a three-dimensional data volume are used to facilitate efficient archiving for a breast imaging session, the two-dimensional thick-slice images corresponding to slab-like subvolumes of the breast. Clinician data overload problems that can arise from the existence of large amounts of three-dimensional full-field breast image data are reduced. Archive space is also preserved while still providing sufficient information data for future reference purposes. Related adjunctive full-field workflow methods are also described. The described embodiments are applicable to FFBU imaging and other full-field breast imaging modalities such as MRI, CT, PET, and others.

    • A method and system for screening and/or diagnosing a tumor in a subject breast using ultrasonically obtained image information is described. A user interface displays a three-dimensional (202) view of the tumor ('206) suspended within a three-dimensional semitransparent view of a breast, the tumor suspended at a position corresponding to the actual position of the tumor inside the breast. A larger, close-up view of the tumor (206) is also provided that a user can manipulate (e.g., rotate, enlarge, etc.) for clearer analysis. A semi-transparent view (204) of the opposing breast is placed adjacent to the semi-transparent view of the subject breast in a manner that reflects the actual positioning of the breasts on the patient's body, or in a manner that emulates a mammogram-like view of the breasts. Alternatively or in conjunction therewith, the user interface displays an animated sequence of ultrasound slices including a highlighted visual indicator of the tumor and an iconic probe position indicator synchronized with the animated sequence.

    • Methods and devices are described for performing a combined hysteroscopy and endometrial sampling in a manner that requires only a single insertion of an elongate object through a cervical opening of a patient's uterus. The distal end of an elongate, hollow sampling sheath of an integrated medical device is inserted through the cervical opening and into the uterus. Fluid is infused through the hollow interior of a sampling sheath, and outward through a distal opening into the uterus. The uterus becomes distended by the positive fluid pressure, allowing visualization. The inside surface of the distended uterus is endoscopically viewed by manipulating the integrated medical device in a manner that directs an imaging module attached to the sampling sheath near the distal end to multiple viewing positions. The corresponding video images of the inside surface are viewed on an electronic display screen of the integrated medical device that is positioned near the proximal end of the sampling sheath. After the viewing, and before withdrawing the distal end of the sampling sheath from the uterus, suction is applied to the hollow interior of the sampling sheath, which causes the distending fluid in the uterus to flow back into the sampling sheath through the distal opening, which returns the uterus to a non-distended state. With the uterus in the non- distended state, suction is applied while the integrated medical device is manipulated within the uterus in a manner that causes a sample of endometrium to be sucked into the tubing. The sample of endometrium is severed by at least one sharp edge formed along the distal opening. The sample is thus trapped in the hollow interior of the sampling sheath. Methods and devices are also described for performing a combined hysteroscopy and endometrial ablation in a manner that requires only a single insertion of an elongate object through a cervical opening of a patient's uterus.
