    • A method for recovering silicon particles and/or silicon carbide particles from a mixture of silicon particles and silicon carbide particles, especially from the mixture of silicon particles and silicon carbide particles obtained from a spent slurry resulting from cutting of silicon ingot in microelectronics and photovoltaic industries, comprising the following steps: a) preparing a homogeneous dispersion of said mixture, water and a water-immiscible solvent having higher density than water; b) settling the homogeneous dispersion for phase separation for a sufficient time so as to establish a water phase rich in silicon particles and a solvent phase rich in silicon carbide particles; c) separating the water phase and the solvent phase; and d) separating the silicon particles from the water phase and separating the silicon carbide particles from the solvent phase.
