In one embodiment, the thermoelectric elements are integrated between conductive interconnection elements on an active side of the die. The magnetometers comprise a light source, a container having a chamber filled with an atomic vapor, and a photo detector capable of detecting optical properties of the atomic vapor. The substrate and the array of the magnetometers are designed such that the magnetometers are able to detect weak magnetic fields. Also, the magnetometers are capable of detecting distinct portions of a magnetic field, such as a non-uniform magnetic field, using a single or a plurality of the magnetometers in the array simultaneously. Other embodiments of the invention include methods of making a device that comprises an array of optical magnetometers and methods of detecting a magnetic field using the device. The device and method can be used in medical diagnostics, such as detecting biomagnetic activities of the human's heart and brain.

At least one of two mating bond structures (213, 223) is formed, at least in part, from an alloy of a first metal and a second metal (or other element) . The second metal is capable of migrating through the first metal to free surfaces of the mating bond structures. During bonding, the two mating bond structures (213, 223) are bonded together to form an interconnect, and the second metal segregates to free surfaces of this interconnect to form a passivation layer (240) . 摘要： A protective layer may be deposited on a surface of the component of a vehicle in order to protect the vehicle component against directed energy attacks such as a lightening strike or a laser beam. The protective layer is made of a material adapted to undergo a metal -insulator transition in response to an external stimulus. The material may be a functional oxide thin film that undergoes a sharp metal-insulator transition in response to an electrical or thermal trigger. The protective layer protects the vehicle component against incoming directed energy by undergoing the metal -insulator transition so as to dissipate the directed energy.
