The IoT device decodes a message indicating a FOTA (firmware update over the air) start time. The IoT device alternates between active and inactive periods of the PSM. The IoT device enters the active period of the PSM at the FOTA start time to decode a FOTA message at the FOTA start time. The FOTA message is received via a dedicated common channel for broadcasting from an evolved NodeB (eNB) to multiple IoT devices. The IoT device updates itself based on the FOTA message.
