The force exerted by the valve spring can be adjusted by altering the pressure at which a fluid is supplied to a fluid chamber thereof, by altering the volume of the fluid chamber, and/or by changing the aggregate surface area over which fluid pressure is coupled to the engine valve. Associated fluid control systems are also disclosed herein, as are various methods for adjusting the force of a valve spring based on a variety of engine parameters, such as engine speed, engine load, and/or a combination thereof.

摘要： A method and system for actuating an internal combustion engine exhaust vaive to provide compression release actuation during an engine braking mode of engine operation and early exhaust valve opening actuation during a positive power mode of engine operation is disclosed. The system may include a first cam having a compression release lobe and an early exhaust valve opening lobe connected to a hydraulic lost motion system including a first rocker arm. A hydraulically actuated piston may be selectively extended from the hydraulic lost motion system to provide the exhaust valve with compression release actuation or early exhaust valve opening actuation. The hydraulicaily actuated piston may be provided as a slave piston in a master-slave piston circuit in a fixed housing, or alternatively, as a hydraulic piston slidably disposed in a rocker arm. The method and system may further provide exhaust gas recirculation and/or brake gas recirculation in combination with compression release actuation and early exhaust valve opening actuation.

In another embodiment of the present invention, the cam closing ramp for a main exhaust event may be extended to terminate near the beginning of a brake gas recirculation event to facilitate refilling a hydraulic valve actuation system used to in association with the exhaust valve.

摘要： Devices and related methods are disclosed that generally involve the selective deactivation of one or more engine valves. In one embodiment, a split-cycle internal combustion engine is provided in which a high-speed trigger valve is used to fill and drain a hydraulic tappet that forms part of a lost-motion system of an engine valve. A spool valve can be used to selectively disconnect the tappet from the trigger valve, thereby deactivating the associated engine valve (i.e., preventing the engine valve from opening). The devices and methods disclosed herein also have application in conventional internal combustion engines and can be used with inwardly-opening and/or outwardly-opening valves.

One or more master piston fluid passages extend from a bore provided in the master piston and register with a fluid passage extending through the housing. A slave piston is slidably disposed in a lower portion of the master piston bore and a valve catch piston is slidably disposed in an upper portion of the master piston bore. The valve catch piston may have a hollow interior, a lower end orifice extending from the hollow interior through a lower end of the valve catch piston, one or more side passages extending through a side portion of the valve catch piston, and one or more seating passages extending through the valve catch piston wall.
