    • Exhaust pressure restriction device (10) for an internal combustion engine comprising a turbocharger having a turbine (12), the turbine (12) having an exhaust gas inlet (18) connected to an exhaust manifold of the internal combustion engine, a turbine wheel (20) drivingly engaging a compressor of the turbocharger, an exhaust gas outlet (22), a waste gate valve (24) in communication with the exhaust gas inlet (18). The exhaust pressure restriction device (10) is provided with a restrictor fitting (14) having an exhaust gas inlet (26), an exhaust gas outlet (28) and a restrictor orifice (30) disposed between the exhaust gas inlet (26) and the exhaust gas outlet (28), the restrictor fitting (14) being mated to the turbine (12) such that the exhaust inlet (26) of the restrictor fitting (14) is disposed for communication with the exhaust gas outlet (22) of the turbine (12), and, a bypass fitting (16) being coupled to both the restrictor fitting (14) and the turbocharger such that the exhaust gas inlet (32) of the bypass fitting (16) is disposed for communication with the exhaust gas outlet (28) of the restrictor fitting (14) and bypass fitting (16) are manufactured as a unitary part which is mounted to the turbine (12) or are integrated into a housing of the turbine (12).

    • Methods and apparatus for actuating an engine valve (34) provided between an engine cylinder and an exhaust manifold (26) to provide compression-release engine braking in combination with exhaust gas restriction and brake gas recirculation are disclosed. In a first embodiment of the present invention, the engine valve used to provide brake gas recirculation and compression-release braking may be maintained slightly open between the brake gas recirculation and compression-release events.
