    • An infusion/guide catheter which is adapted to be introduced into a coronary ostium of a coronary artery of the heart of a patient through an opening in an aorta of the patient, permitting blood perfusion from the aorta into the ostium. Preferably, the catheters can be placed without the use of fluoroscopy. In one embodiment, the infusion catheter generally comprises a tube having at least one lumen, a proximal end, and a distal end, the tube having at least one bend to facilitate placement of the distal end of the tube into the ostium of the coronary artery when the proximal end of the tube extends from the opening in the aorta, wherein the distal end of the tube is configured to fit within the coronary ostium while still permitting blood perfusion from the aorta into the ostium. The catheter, can be used to deliver a fluid, more locally in the heart to enhance the efficiency of fluid or drug administration. Several embodiments include a light delivery portion capable of illuminating a distal end of the catheter for visualization thereof through the vasculature. A guidewire having a light delivery portion is also capable of illuminating a distal end of a catheter for placement of the catheter in a coronary vessel without the use of fluoroscopy.

    • A broad class of photosensitive compounds having enhanced in vivo target tissue selectivity and versatility in photodynamic therapy. Many furocoumarin compounds, such as psoralens, exhibit cytostatic activity when photoactivated but exhibit little in vivo specificity for selectively accumulating in any particular target tissue such as atheromatous plaques. Reactive Oxygen Producing Photosensitizers ("ROPPs") are photoactivatable compounds having an affinity for hyperproliferating cells (such as atheromatous plaque cells), which when photoactivated, produce cytotoxic reaction products. The photoactivity of a ROPP, such as a porphyrin, may be reduced by metalating the porphyrin while the selective affinity of the metalized ROPP for hyperproliferating tissue remains substantially unchanged. By linking a furocoumarin compound to a ROPP to form a F-ROPP, the cytostatic properties of the furocoumarin portion of the F-ROPP can be exploited while the selective affinity of the ROPP portion of the compound for hyperproliferating cells such as atheromatous plaque provides enhanced tissue selectivity without cytotoxicity. In vivo, certain F-ROPPs may be forced to selectively accumulate in a target tissue by illuminating only the target tissue with light having a wavelength operable for photoactivating the F portion of the F-ROPP thereby causing the F-ROPP to either form a monoadduct with or cross-link the cellular DNA in the target tissue. Light of a second wavelength can then be delivered to the target tissue to photoactivate the ROPP portion causing further interference with cellular activity.

    • A method for coupling a first vessel and a second vessel in an anastomosis. The method includes providing a first vessel with a fastener coupled thereto, inserting at least a portion of the device into the second vessel with an end portion of the fastener extending generally longitudinally through the second vessel, and radially expanding at least a portion of the fastener to sealingly secure the first vessel to an inner wall of the second vessel. An anastomosis fastener for use in coupling the first and second vessels together is also disclosed. The second vessel has an opening formed in a side wall thereof for insertion of the device. The device includes a tubular member at least a portion thereof being radially expandable. The tubular member is preformed with a bend along its central longitudinal axis so that a portion of the tubular member extends out from the side wall of the second vessel while an end portion of the tubular member extends generally coaxially with the second vessel when the tubular member is inserted in the second vessel. The tubular member is sufficiently rigid to substantially retain the tubular member in its preformed configuration after the tubular member is expanded.
