    • In one aspect, the present invention provides a method for enhancing the sensitivity of liquid- state NMR or MRI experiments. In general, the method involves (a) providing a frozen sample in a magnetic field, wherein the frozen sample includes a polarizing agent with at least one unpaired electron and an analyte with at least one spin half nucleus; (b) polarizing the at least one spin half nucleus of the analyte by irradiating the frozen sample with radiation having a frequency that excites electron spin transitions in the at least one unpaired electron of the polarizing agent; (c) melting the frozen sample to produce a molten sample; and (d) detecting nuclear spin transitions in the at least one spin half nucleus of the analyte in the molten sample. In certain embodiments, the methods further comprise a step of freezing a sample in a magnetic field to provide the frozen sample in a magnetic field. The freezing, polarizing, melting and detecting steps may be repeated as many times as desired. In another aspect, the present invention provides systems for performing these methods.

    • Systems and methods for obtaining two- and three-dimensional magnetic resonance images by using azimuthally symmetric dipolar magnetic fields from magnetic spheres . A complete two- or three- dimensional structured rendering of a sample can be obtained without the motion of the sample relative to the sphere. Magnetic spheres in the range of 100 μm and 100 nm are used with samples that are approximately one-tenth as large as the magnetic sphere . Sequential positioning of the integrated sample-sphere system in an external magnetic field being much larger than the magnetic field of the sphere (e.g. 10T) at various angular orientations provides all the required imaging slices for successful computerized tomographic image reconstruction. The requirement to scan the sample relative to the magnetic tip is eliminated. Resolutions approaching atomic dimensions are expected to be obtained.

    • The invention relates to the probehead of nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer comprising a frame, a radio frequency coil attached thereto and a rotor located inside the coil containing the examined sample, supported by bearings and provided with turbines at both ends, a source of compressed gas, an executive unit and a control unit. The innovative step involves using at least two turbines and providing the executive unit with at least to compressed gas channels for controlling rotor velocity, whereas the coil is connected to the inner surface of the frame with at least two, preferably four sheets of thin non-conductive and non-magnetic material. The rotation velocity of the probehead rotor can be controlled and the rotation direction reversed thereby obtaining additional information on the examined sample during the measuring process.
