摘要： A method for decreasing the level of restenosis following a stent placement medical intervention involves the continuous administration of a dose of an anti- restenotic agent , such as Pimecrolimus, from the stent to vascular tissue in need of treatment in a controlled and extended drug release profile for a period of at least 45 days in vivo. The in vivo release profile is determined by in vivo animal experiments involving implanting a series of stents in animals, explanting the stents from the animals at selected time points, and extracting remaining drug from the explanted stents.

摘要： A bifurcation stent includes a first end which is deformable or crushable at a lower force than a second end. The crushable first end and more rigid second end of the bifurcation stent allow one end of the stent to remain expanded in tissue supporting configuration in a side branch of a vessel bifurcation while the other end is easily crushed against the side wall of the main vessel into which it extends. A method of supporting a bifurcated body lumen with the bifurcation stent involves delivering the bifurcation stent in an unexpanded configuration to a bifurcation in a bodylumen, positioning the bifurcation stent with the distal portion substantially within a side branch vessel of the bifurcation and the proximal crushable portion substantially within the main vessel, expanding the bifurcation stent, and expanding a main vessel stent along side the bifurcation stent and thereby crushing at least a portion of the crushable proximal portion of the bifurcation stent against the main vessel main.

摘要： An implantable medical device loading method is used to deposit layers into a plurality of holes in the implantable device in a stepwise manner to achieve extended and controllable delivery of drugs from the holes in the device. Each layer is deposited in a liquid form and is then solidified. The depositing and solidifying steps are repeated with the same or different solutions to achieve a controlled drug delivery matrix within the holes. To achieve increased uniformity of the initial layers improved wetting characteristics are desired. The selection and control of the surface energies of one or more of the surfaces within the holes and the surface tension of the filling solution allow the system to achieve the desired wetting characteristics.

摘要： A multi solvent drug delivery matrix formation method is used to place layers into a reservoir in a stmt in a stepwise manner to achieve extended delivery of water soluble, sensitive, or difficult to deliver drugs. The multi solvent matrix formation method allows the formation of a drug reservoir with a layered morphology in which the mixing between layers is limited to allow the different layers to perform different functions in controlling drug delivery. A stmt having a drug delivery matrix includes a first beneficial agent layer affixed to the stmt by depositing a first solution of a first polymer and a first solvent, and a second beneficial agent layer affixed to the first beneficial agent layer by depositing a second solution of a second polymer and a second solvent. The second solvent is selected so that the first polymer is substantially insoluble in the second solvent to prevent degradation of the first polymer during deposition of the second polymer. A therapeutic agent is provided in the first beneficial agent layer or the second beneficial agent layer to form a drug delivery matrix.

The implantable medical device includes a device body containing a beneficial agent arranged for delivery from the device body to an implantation site within a patient. 摘要： The implantable medical devices are configured to release at least one therapeutic agent from a matrix affixed to the implantable body with a release profile which is programable to the agent and treatment. The matrix is formed such that the concentration of the therapeutic agent in the matrix varies as a gradient relative to a surface of the implantable body. The change in the concentration gradient of the agent in the matrix directly controls the rate of elution of the agent from the matrix. The therapeutic agent matrix can be disposed in the stent or on surfaces of the stent in various configurations, including within volumes defined by the stent, such as openings, holes, or concave surfaces, as a reservoir of agent, and alternatively as a coating on all or a portion of the surfaces of the stent structure.

The therapeutic agent is affixed in openings in the implantable medical device body in a manner such that the therapeutic agent is released to the vulnerable plaque at a therapeutic dosage and over an administration period effective to stabilize the vulnerable plaque.

A pawl (230) is disposed adjacent to and substantially parallel to the hinge prior to expansion of the medical device and a plurality of teeth (240) are adapted to receive the pawl. The present invention additionally provides the benefit of limiting the amount of recoil of an expandable device by engaging a locking mechanism, thereby retaining the expanded diameter of the device.
