    • A motor vehicle power train includes an engine (26) mounted longitudinally near the front of the vehicle and a transmission assembly (35) mounted intermediate front and rear differentials (17, 18). The transmission assembly is connected to the engine through an input propshaft (31), to the front differential through a front propshaft (37) and to the rear differential through a rear propshaft (38). The transmission assembly comprises a change speed transmission (28) which receives drive from the input propshaft and a hollow output shaft (49), a transfer transmission comprising a centre differential (30) which is drivably connected to the hollow output shaft, has a front differential output shaft (54) for transmitting drive to the front propshaft and a rear differential output shaft (56) for transmitting drive to the rear propshaft, one of the differential output shafts (54) extending coaxially through the hollow output shaft. The transmission assembly also comprises an auxiliary output transmission (39) in the drive from the front differential output shaft to the front propshaft, the transmission assembly being arranged so that front and rear rotary outputs (37B, 38B) to the front and rear propshafts are axially offset from a rotary input (33) from the input propshaft, the front rotary output by an amount greater than that of the rear rotary output. The change speed transmission is conveniently adapted from a known automatic transmission for front wheel drive vehicles and can be connected using an input transmission (34).

    • The door assembly is mounted for hinging movement between a closed position (Pc) in contact with a door seal (30a) and an open position (Po). The door assembly comprises a mounting mechanism including a mounting arm (18) having a first end (20) pivotally connected to a support (16) for the door (14) and a second end (24) pivotally connected to the door (14). A second arm (26) is provided for controlling pivotal movement of the door (14) relative to the mounting arm (18). The mounting mechanism includes a closing device comprising a closure member (40) on the support (16) which is movable during closing movement of the door (14) so as to engage a pin (44) on the door (14) prior to the door (14) reaching its fully closed position (Pc). Further movement of the door (14) into its closed position (Pc) then causes the closure member to urge the door (14) against the door seal (30a).

    • A vehicle alarm comprises a control unit (2) coupled to a message centre (22) and an ultrasonic movement sensor (20). The movement sensor (20) is automatically activated when the vehicle ignition is switched off. If movement is not detected in the time period between switching the ignition off and the driver's door being closed, then the movement sensor (20) is deemed to have failed. A count of such failures is kept and when a predetermined number of such failures has occurred, a warning message is displayed on the message centre (22). If movement is detected in the time period, the count is reset to zero. In this way, the alarm can automatically determine whether or not the ultrasonic movement sensor (20) is functioning correctly.

    • A clutch cable adjuster comprises outer and inner tubular members (28, 30), each attached to part of the cable sleeve (24, 26), which slidingly fit one inside the other, and a spring (50) acting against abutments (38, 48), on the tubular members to urge them apart. A circlip (52) placed in one of a plurality of grooves (44) in the inner tubular member prevents the tubular members from moving together beyond a set point. On removal of the cirlip (52) the tubular members adopt an adjusted relative position under the influence of the spring (50) and the circlip can be replaced in a suitable groove (44).
