The film-like layer is held between the mould parts and thermoplastics material is injected into the mould against the film. The injection step causes the film to be urged against an adjacent surface (19) of the mould and the film-like layer and the adjacent surface are of different surface texture. The film imparts to the injected plastics material a surface texture (22) which is different from that which would be otherwise imparted by the adjacent surface (19) of the mould. The paint is injected by a machine (21) which receives granules of the paint for melting into an injectable form. A moulding made by such a method can take the form of a motor vehicule component which is coated with paint in the mould instead of requiring the usual step of painting by dipping or spraying.

摘要： A polymeric article, for example, a vehicle component, comprises a thermoplastic coating layer, for example a paint layer or an electrically conductive layer, on a thermoplastic substrate, which may comprise recycled material. The article, which may be recyclable by melt-processing techniques, may be prepared by an in-mould coating process in which a solid thermoplastic paint or other coating material, in softened or molten form, is applied to a mould surface before, or substantially simultaneously with, introduction of thermoplastic substrate material into the mould. Thermal spraying, multiple-injection and blow moulding methods for making the articles are described.

摘要： A composite plastics structure in the form of two parts of an inlet manifold housing (11) is formed by joining a first component (16) to a second component (17) at a pair of abutting non-planar joint faces (27, 28) indicated by a joint line (18). Lands (37, 38, 39 and 40) on the joint faces define gaps which are substantially eliminated when tongue (29) on the first component is welded to an abutment surface (33) on the second component by vibrating one component relative to the other. Where the joint face is inclined to a clamping force the projecting distance of the tongue is reduced. The first component is more flexible than the second component to permit the joint faces to conform under the clamping load.

A gasket (46) between the guard member (38) and a cover (44) forms, with the guard member (38), a separation region (50) having an inlet (72) fed by the breather passages and outlets (51) in the form of holes through the gasket (46). The gas that can flow from the breather passages to the outlets (51) is slow and substantially horizontal so that oil can separate out of the gas. The guards (40) prevent oil from the cams (42) from mixing with the breather gases.
