    • An aerated grit tank is provided having a longitudinally extending control wall dividing the tank into parallel lift and settling chambers. An air discharge apparatus is provided at the bottom of the lift chamber to induce an upward flow of sewage causing a generally helical flow of sewage around the control wall. The control wall is supported in the tank by mechanisms selectively operable to vertically position the wall with a bottom longitudinally extending edge in predetermined spaced relationship to a bottom floor of the tank whereby the velocity of the cross currents may be effectively controlled. One form of the structure has a single control wall unit while a second form of the invention has two wall forming panels with an uppermost panel supported in fixed relationship to the tank and a lowermost panel supported for vertical displacement.

    • A fuel filter device for use with diesel engines has a manually operable pump section and a filter container housing therein a filter element and detachably attached to the pump section. The pump section has a manually operable diaphragm facing a chamber having fuel inlet and outlet respectively communicated with a fuel tank and the filter container. The inlet and outlet are provided with valves responsive to the fuel pressure at the inlet and to a pressure variation caused by the diaphragm in the chamber to allow the fuel to flow through the inlet into the chamber and through the outlet into the container in which the fuel flows through the filter element and out of the container to a discharge port of the pump section. An electric heater is disposed in the chamber adjacent to the path of the flow of the fuel in the chamber. A fuel temperature or pressure sensor is disposed downstream of the filter element to provide a signal for the control of the electrical supply to the heater.

    • A separator vessel for separating and removing a substantial amount of an unwanted substance from a liquid wherein said substance has a specific gravity less than said liquid. The vessel comprises an enclosure having a bottom section and an inwardly tapering conical top section directly above the bottom section and having a top end area. Conduit means are provided in the enclosure to release the liquid in the bottom section thereof. Skimming means is secured at the top end area of the conical section for continuously discharging the unwanted substance as it rises to a predetermined level to the top end area. The unwanted substance is released through the conduit means and pumped to the storage means. Means is also provided to remove liquid from the bottom of the enclosure.

The unit comprises a semi-rigid frame, preferably molded in plastic and consisting of a horizontal top rim, vertically depending frame elements, horizontally disposed bottom frame elements or portions thereof, and a mounting bracket which seats on one wall of a wash tub. A filter screen is mounted within the frame. The screen is a plastic mesh and forms closed sides and a bottom with an open mouth. A removable cap seats over the mouth and a washing machine drain hose extends through an aperture of predetermined size and shape into the screen within the frame.

    • A device for detecting conductive and non-conductive material present in fluid systems and lines, such as hydraulic, lubricating or cooling systems. The basic device is a woven mesh screen, which is cylindrical, flat or other shape, and comprises conductors of alternate polarity and non-conductors. The conductors may serve as the fill yarn while the non-conductors serve as the warp, or vice versa. Preferably, the selected weave exposes the conductors on one side, i.e. facing into the flow of fluid, with the non-conductors on the downstream side. A chip is detected when it contacts a pair of conductors of opposite polarity, thereby completing an electrical circuit and energizing a signal. Provision is made for incorporating a pressure sensitive device with the screen wherein rate of buildup of both conductive and non-conductive debris on the screen will be indicated by the change in pressure differential across the screen. The device, therefore, is readily incorporated into circulating fluid systems of all types. An embodiment of the invention permits the device to perform the functions of both a filter and a detector wherein debris below a certain size is not electrically detected, but is filtered out of the system.
