    • An electronic tuning control system for television receivers employs several different functional integrated circuit modules to effect channel selection either locally at the receiver itself or by remote control. The system includes a control circuit which permits sequential scanning or stepping of the different channels in either the ''''up'''' or ''''down'''' direction. A provision is made for setting tuning control potentiometers for each channel to either a first range of settings indicative of ''''preferred'''' channels to which the receiver can be tuned or to a second range indicating that no tuning or channel selection is to be effected for ''''non-preferred'''' channels. The second range then is utilized to cause the receiver to automatically skip over such nonpreferred channels and scan only those channels having a preferred setting. In addition, direct selection of a channel is effected by closing individual switches associated with each channel. The direct selection circuitry operates through the scanning circuitry in conjunction with the skip mode circuitry to effect substantially instantaneous direct channel selection.

    • An electronic tuning AM/FM radio receiver utilizes a common circuit for both FM reception and AM reception to stop automatically the scanning operation on the local oscillation frequency at its optimum point thus attaining simplicity of circuit structure, whereas the prior art needed a pair of complicated circuits for FM reception and AM reception. There is a local oscillator for AM reception and a second local oscillator for FM reception provided independently or commonly to each other, a control circuit provided for controlling selectively the scanning operation of the local oscillators and holding the local oscillation frequency of the selected one of the local oscillators at a scanning frequency when a tuning signal is applied, and a converter provided for converting an FM intermediate frequency into an AM intermediate frequency.

    • An automatic tuning device for use with a radio receiver includes a capacitor for storing a voltage which determines the frequency to which the device is tuned, means for charging the capacitor, and a control element connected across the capacitor for preventing further charging or discharging of the capacitor after the receiver has been properly tuned. When it is desired to tune the receiver to a new station, an advance switch is actuated, causing the enabling voltage from the control device to be removed so that the capacitor can be further charged. When the capacitor has been charged to a voltage corresponding to the high end of the frequency band, a unijunction transistor across the capacitor is fired, causing the capacitor to discharge to a voltage corresponding approximately to the lowest frequency in the band of interest.
