    • A frequency sweep control apparatus includes a variable frequency oscillator, a demodulator, a unique word signal detector, a sweep range controller, and a frequency controller. The variable frequency oscillator is capable of controlling an oscillation frequency. The demodulator demodulates a reception intermediate frequency signal by using an output from the variable frequency oscillator. The unique word signal detector detects a unique word signal in the reception signal from a demodulated output from the demodulator 102 and outputs a detection signal indicating a unique word signal detected state in which the unique word signal is detected or a unique word signal non-detected state in which the unique word signal is not detected. The sweep range controller controls a sweep range on the basis of an output from the unique word signal detector. The frequency controller controls the oscillation frequency of the variable frequency oscillator on the basis of an output from the sweep range controller.

    • A search type tuning device wherein the output signal representing the difference frequency between the output frequency from a voltage-controlled frequency sweep oscillator and a reference frequency is filtered by a low-pass filter; the difference between the output voltage from the low-pass filter and a predetermined driving voltage for sweeping the oscillation frequency of the oscillator is derived from an adder; the output from the adder is integrated by an integrator; and the output voltage from the integrator is applied as a sweep voltage to the oscillator, thereby automatically maintaining the oscillation frequency thereof at a predetermined value. The analysis of the operation of the oscillator may be much facilitated, and when used as an automatic channel selector for a television receiver, a high speed automatic channel selection may be ensured.

    • A signal-seeking tuning control system for use with a voltagecontrolled tuner. A ramp generator is operated manually to cause the tuner to sweep through a spectrum of channel frequencies. When the converted-frequency signal outputted by the tuner approaches a desired frequency range a discriminator produces an error signal for energizing a control system having three discrete states. when the discriminator output is within a fixed, narrowly defined range the control system arrests the operation of the ramp generator. Should the converted frequency drift beyond the narrow range, the discriminator produces an error signal which reflects the change in frequency, energizing an appropriate segment of the control to operate the ramp generator. Retrace means are provided for recycling the ramp generator when the voltage outputted thereby achieves a predetermined maximum or minimum value.

    • A circuit for use in electronically sweeping the tuning capacitors of a radio receiver through their capacitance range for successively tuning in each station. The sweeping action stops automatically and the value of the tuning capacitors are held constant at each station which is picked up by the radio. The sweep function is restarted to drive the tuner toward the next higher frequency station by means of a manually operated switch. The tuning capacitors comprise voltage variable capacitance diodes which are varied by means of a ramp voltage supplied by a generator. The generator is formed by a PNP transistor which charges a capacitor to provide the ramp voltage, and by a first field effect transistor which controls the base current of the PNP transistor. A silicon controlled rectifier is connected in parallel with the capacitor at the output of the ramp generator to discharge the capacitor after it has reached the peak voltage level required to vary the diode''s capacitance. In the case of an FM radio, said first field effect transistor has its gate electrode coupled for bias control by a ratio detector in the IF strip of the FM receiver. The output of the ratio detector causes the ramp voltage to level off, when a station is tuned in, by establishing the currents in the transistors so that the charging current to the ramp generator capacitor ceases, thereby holding constant the voltage to the tuning diode. In the case of an AM radio, the IF frequency developed in the AM receiver is passed through a series circuit formed by a narrow band filter, an amplifier, and a rectifier, to provide a DC voltage which is applied to the base electrode of the PNP ramp generator transistor. The DC voltage at said base electrode becomes more positive as a station is tuned in, and the PNP transistor decreases its conduction so that the ramp function ceases and the output voltage to the tuning diodes remain constant.
