    • The present invention is directed to a method and system for manufacturing an electronic device, such as a data storage device. The method includes generating a register including a desired device configuration. The generated register may include a variety of data associated with the components to be included. The register may include an identifier and radio signal information associated with the component so that the component may be tracked via a radio frequency identification device (RFID) physically associated with the component. Radio signals are monitored for signals associated with the component such as prior to inclusion into the electronic device to prevent improper assembly. An alert may be provided if a radio signal associated with a component included in the desired configuration is not present. The radio signals determined during monitoring are verified with the radio signals associated with the components included in the register. The components are assembled into the electronic device (or partially assembled device). The radio signal(s) are monitored to ensure the components were actually incorporated into the electronic device prior to proceeding with additional production.

    • Data associated with supply chain events for a manufactured assembly is automatically stored. In preferred embodiments the supply chain events for the manufactured assembly are stored on an RFID tag attached to the assembly as it travels through the supply chain to insure the data concerning the assembly is readily available and not separated from the assembly. In other embodiments, the supply chain events or characteristic data is stored on the RFID tag in a hierarchical structure beginning with the original state of the assembly and with additional entries for each step in the assembly process. In other embodiments, as the product undergoes rework, conversion to a different assembly, or personalizations, the new state of the assembly is stored in the RFID tag. In other preferred embodiments, other information is also stored on the RFID tag such as country of origin, failure data, cycle times and a quality status indicator.

    • Systems and methods to select a vehicle component are provided. In at least one embodiment, a system receives first configuration data defining a first vehicle assembly configuration, category data defining a component category, and component data defining a vehicle component. The system stores the configuration data and the category data in memory. The system automatically determines whether the component data satisfies a selected vehicle assembly configuration definition and whether the component data satisfies a selected component category definition. The system outputs a representation of the vehicle component if the component data satisfies the selected vehicle assembly configuration definition and the selected component category definition thereby automatically selecting the component.
