摘要： A system and method of non-intrusively measuring characteristics of a fluid in a substrate are provided. The fluid is located in a fluid channel in a substrate, and an electromagnetic radiation source emits an electromagnetic beam toward the fluid and the substrate such that a first part of the beam reflects off a first surface of the substrate and a second part of the beam travels through the fluid and reflects off a second surface of the substrate. A sensor detects the resulting interference pattern produced by the two parts of the beam. Changes in fringes of the interference pattern, such as shifting positions or intensities, relates to a change in the refractive index of the fluid. Since a change in refractive index relates to the density and pressure of the fluid, the changes in interference patterns can be used to discern changes in characteristics in the fluid such as pressure.

摘要： An apparatus for monitoring strain caused by bodily fluids or tissues in contact with an implantable medical device includes at least one strain gauge sensor embedded within the implantable medical device. The strain gauge sensor is configured to measure a mechanical strain of the implantable medical device. The apparatus further includes a processor module coupled with the strain gauge sensor. The processor module is configured to receive a sense signal generated by the strain gauge sensor and to extract therefrom a measurement of strain caused by bodily fluids or tissues in contact with the implantable medical device.

The motion base includes a base assembly; a support structure configured to be coupled to the force measurement assembly; a rotatable coupling device, the rotatable coupling device rotatably coupling the support structure to the base assembly; and an actuation system, the actuation system including one or more actuators operatively coupled to the support structure, the one or more actuators configured to displace the support structure relative to the base assembly. In one or more embodiments, greater than 50% of the weight of the support structure is supported by the rotatable coupling device. Also, in one or more embodiments, the motion base may be used for displacing objects other than a force measurement assembly, such as for displacing a flight simulator or a virtual reality simulator.

摘要： A system and method for detecting a failure of a fluid film bearing is disclosed. The system and method use one or more non-laser based strain transducers to detect changes in the frequency spectrum of the pressure of the fluid film at one or more locations in the bearing to identify failure or the risk of failure of the bearing. The system and can use metallic film, piezoelectric, and piezoresistive strain sensors to generate alarms when particular frequency bands become present in the strain frequency spectrum. The system and method can also generate strain orbit plots and perform waveform analysis of the time varying strains in the bearing housing caused by time-varying changes in the pressure of the fluid film.

摘要： A needle for invasive medical use includes a long extended cylindrical needle shaft having an axis and an outer surface area, with a short shaft end at a first end of the shaft with a beveled tip with a pointed end, and a needle hub attached to a second end of the shaft including a device to indicate the location of the shaft end during use inside a body. The needle has a flexible joint with a notch within the shaft at the beginning of the shaft end. The device is a displacement sensor for detecting a displacement of the shaft end relative to the rest of the shaft resulted from a force applied to the shaft end when the needle hub is moved and a signal conductor to transmit the detected signals. The invention further describes a needle assembly comprising such a needle and a syringe attached to said needle hub, whereas an evaluation unit is connected to the signal conductor.
