摘要： In a molten metal plating apparatus all surfaces of a sinking roller and a supporting roller to be in contact with a molten metal are coated with iron silicide films. A bearing comprises a holder made of a heat resistant steel and lined with a carbon-carbon fiber complex material. A surface of the holder is coated with an Fe3Si film similar to the sinking roller. There is an Fe3Si film on a surface of a shaft portion, and the Fe3Si is in contact with and slides on the carbon-carbon fiber complex material.

摘要： By rolling a slab with a thickness of 80 mm or less in a plant including a continuous casting machine and a hot strip rolling mill directly combined with each other, low-speed rolling can be achieved while suppressing a drop of the strip temperature and the occurrence of scales. After a slab 2 cast by a continuous casting machine 1 and being 80 mm or less thick is heated and descaled, it is rough-rolled into a bar with a thickness of 20 to 60 mm by a roughing mill 7 constructed as a 4H-twin mill. After being heated and descaled again, the bar is finish-rolled by finishing mills 19 to 21, each of which employs small-diameter work rolls having a diameter not larger than 500 mm, into a thin plate with a thickness in the range of 1.6 mm to 15 mm or a thick plate with a thickness in the range of 3 mm to 40 mm. The rolling speed on the delivery side of the finishing mills 19 to 21 is set to be as low as 350 m/minute or less with a result of small production scale, and the plant length is set to be not longer than 100 m with a result of small plant space.

摘要： Guide roller units are made movable back and forth in the direction of thickness of a slab, allowing slab lagging covers to be inserted to and withdrawn from gaps formed between the guide roller units and the slab. Depending on the casting speed, those ones of the guide roller units and the slab lagging covers which are in proper positions are replaced from one to the other for selective use so that the respective lengths of a cooling zone and a heat keeping zone are adjusted to control the cooling rate of the slab in a positive manner. The slab temperature can be kept at a value capable of carrying out rolling regardless of change in the casting speed depending on variations in the amount of molten steel supplied.

摘要： A lubricant is supplied from headers of lubricant supply units onto surfaces of back-up rolls at locations spaced from contact positions between a pair of work rolls and a pair of back-up rolls. The headers each include a lubricant spray nozzle for spraying the lubricant under a pressure not lower than 3 kg/cm.sup.2, a header cover for confining the lubricant sprayed from the lubricant spray nozzle, an oil return line for returning the surplus lubricant, and seal members made of flexible material such as rubber. The work rolls are provided with water wiping plates, and the back-up rolls are also provided with water wiping plates. In a work rolls crossing type mill thus arranged, water films of cooling water deposited on the roll surfaces are removed to prevent the cooling water from mixing into the lubricant. Even if the water films are not totally removed, it is possible to surely plate out the lubricant for reliably lubricating between the work rolls and the back-up rolls. Raw lubricant oil of the lubricant meets the following requirements; (a) the coefficient of friction between said work rolls and said back-up rolls is in the range of 0.04 to 0.1, (b) the viscosity is not larger than 80 Cst. at 40.degree. C., (c) mineral oil and synthetic ester not less than 5% are contained as base oil, (d) a fatty acid in the range of 0.03 to 0.5% is contained as an oiliness enhancer, (e) an extreme pressure additive not less than 0.1% is contained, and preferably, (f) a surface active agent not larger than 0.5% is contained as emulsifier.

摘要： A work roll cross type rolling mill comprises a pair of work rolls and a pair of back-up rolls for backing up the work rolls. The back-up rolls are so arranged that their axes can be inclined within horizontal planes only to three or four specific angular positions. The work rolls are allowed to be inclined within horizontal planes with respect to the back-up rolls such that the axes of the work rolls cross the axes of the associated back-up rolls and cross each other. The nip between each the work roll and the associated back-up roll is lubricated so as to reduce axial thrust generated therebetween due to the crossing of the rolls. The cross angle between the work rolls is set and controlled during rolling operation only when the roll peripheral speed or the rolling speed is 50 m/min or higher. Advantages of work roll cross type rolling mill are fully extended to realize stable rolling without trouble so as to ensure high quality of the rolled product while achieving higher rate of operation of the mill with facilitated operation.

摘要： Mash seam welding is performed to weld metal plates with thicknesses of 2 mm or more to stabilize the strength of a joint portion, reduce uneven parts of the joint portion, and ensure high strength and reliability of the joint portion. First, two metal plates, clamped with first and second clamping devices, are placed to overlap each other at their end portions. The overlapping portions (L) of the metal plates are pressed together with a pair of upper and lower electrode wheels while welding currents flow to continuously weld the overlapping portions (L) and join the metal plates. The pressing forces applied to the electrode wheels are controlled so that upper and lower welding forces acting upon the overlapping portions are equal to each other during the time when the overlapping portions are continuously welded.
